Level 1 - The Swing Motion Principles
Moving the club in a circle around center
Welcome to the first of three levels of golf mastery
Level 1 - Principles of the Swing Motion
These are the basic PHYSICAL SKILLS needed to generate a golf SWING MOTION. This is where we talk about how to move your body to move the club through space. There are basic things that you must do, but once those are met, individual idiosyncrasies are allowed and encouraged. But first we must understand how the club needs to move through space and how we propel it properly.
Principle 1 - Passive arms and shoulders Allow the swing to happen as a reaction instead of forcing the action. Fluid, reactive, soft, relaxed arms and shoulders allow for the responsiveness needed as well as eliminating the muscular tension that so often creates a topped shot.
Principle 2 - Pivot your body Move right, then left, anchoring your arm swing to a smooth and consistent pace that you can learn to adjust to. Creating a consistent pivot/turn motion allows for the pace of the swing and the timing required to become comfortable and more importantly, consistent.
Principle 3 - Pose the finish. Find that nicely balanced finish position on every swing. Finishing in balance indicates that you have found some semblance of smooth in your swing.
If you master these three things and become comfortable doing them with rhythm and balance in a consistent manner, your golf swing motion itself will improve.
